ENGINEERRUS
When
the first issue of ENGINEERRUS was published in 1993, little did
the editorial team foresee that the newsletter would grow to a
whopping circulation size of 23,000 in nine years' time.
In 1993, ENGINEERRUS was a two-colour publication with a modest
circulation of 5,500 copies. In July 1994, a bold decision
was taken to experiment with four-color printing. The
center-spread took up the challenge (the rest of the eight-page
newsletter remained as two-colour).

Four years down the road (Issue 11), ENGINEERRUS came up with a
new design for its masthead, which according to the team, was a
branding exercise that highlighted the newsletter’s tenacity
to continuity. It was also around this time, that recruitment of
student journalists and photographers took place.
Indeed,
the efforts were paid off as circulation increased to
6,500 for the next issue (Jan 1999).
This somehow set the impetus for demand. In July 1999, the
newsletter went into its second print for the first time,
amassing a total circulation of 8,000 copies! And mind
you, this number was not affected by its online debut in
July 1999.
In
Dec 1999, the editorial team underwent a structural change
which was necessary as part of the plan to incorporate
ENGINEERRUS into the CCA scheme. And that spiced up the
circulation to 15,000 even before printing.
By
the time demand for the now-16-page newsletter reached
23,000 in January 2002, circulation had grown more than
seven times since January 1998!
And while we are writing this piece in February 2003, it is heard that circulation is increasing steadily!
ENGINEERRUS is also available online.
